Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello! I've been using Arch on a VPS for about a year and decided to use it as my main OS a few days ago switching from Debian.

Still typing apt-get all the damn time.

^ Sure - though I can see people paying in new ways for a windows copy, in the days of cloud & big data.

Eh?

There have been rumours (unconfirmed afaik) about future windows releases that include advertisements but will be free to use.

How would that even work?  It's already plagued by absurd and annoying pop-ups everywhere.  Now there will be more?

The SCOTUS decision of Alice vs. something bank was causing some rumors about Microsoft and all the biggies dropping software patents?  That would also be unbelievable.  There is also talk about Microsoft rapidly losing marketshare as more netbooks running ChromeOS were being sold than "comparibly priced" Windows 8.1.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone.  I decided to take what I consider the plunge and start installing Arch.  I've been messing with Linux since the early days but didn't get serious until 2005.  I've been Linux only since then but I'm nothing more than google/copy/paster.  :0/

I would blame it on Ubuntu but truth be told I've just been lazy.

My goal with my series of Arch installs is to really try to learn what I'm doing.  Arch seems to be the perfect amount of hand holding with all the documentation.

I've been primarily using Manjaro for the last year since transitioning from Debian and Ubuntu.

Manjaro Linux, because I haven't put on my big boy pants yet.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello all,
I've been using Arch for close to a year now and am quite impressed with it.
Previously in the world of Linux I've used RedHat and CentOS at college and Ubuntu/Xubuntu at home,
Arch Linux has saved me from using outdated software packages.
I just never got involved with the community to date, I guess it's time to change that.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everybody. I'm a newbie arch linux user, finally.

I've been loving linux since I knew it studying software engineering and started using it full time since I could bought my own laptop (i shared one with my family and they didn't want to change).

Using ubuntu was a pleasure, easy to install, use, solve problems but I wanted to move to a next level, so here I'm.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Popping in to say "Hi!".
My first jump into Linux was with Slackware way back when my old Canopus Pure3D was 'State of the Art' (still have it in a box)... very long time ago.
Tried many distros on this laptop in the past two years. Some worked well, some didn't. Used SolydX for over a year but ended up wanting more (and less at the same time). My kid's desktop currently runs Manjaro but I am not happy with it... It will be pure Arch as soon as I can get the time to reinstall.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello.

I'm making a little emu machine out of a Chromebox.  Trying out Arch as other distros have to much hand holding which has prevented me from learning the nitty-gritty.

I am not disappointed.  I'm convinced I will install Arch on my main machine when all is said and done with the Chromebox and finally start transitioning from Windows.

The Wiki is amazing, but I still have some questions that I'll ask in the appropriate areas.

Hello, Archers!
The big transition from Debian is coming for me but I'm prepared! smile Arch Linux seems to fit my needs (build it yourself, a lot of configuration options, fast, light and apt-get free) so it's time to try it! And I hope that this will be my last distro of choice.
