I have setup Arch on my Pixel without any problem.  I have created a quick guide for getting it up and running without removing ChromeOS.  I cheated and used ArchBang as my base but it works well.

If anyone is interested

ArchLink

I followed this guide (and the others), but using archbang-testing-2013.12.05-x86_64.iso, step 4 does not boot to archbang, but the "OS verification is off" screen and then proceeds to boot to ChromeOS as normal.

Edit: I was successfully able to install, had to use syslinux 6.01 instead of the lastest one.

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

Hello.

I'm having trouble booting from the Arch Linux live image on a new Chromebook Pixel with the legacy BIOS. It boots fine from the i686 boot option, but it quickly reboots under x86_64. The last thing that I see on the screen in the latter case is the 'Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)'... then the screen flickers and I'm back at 'OS verification is OFF'. This is both with and without 'mem=4G' option.

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: Perhaps this is the same syslinux problem mentioned above. I'll try it with an older live image...

EDIT2: That did it. I needed to go back to October, though.

Can you guys confirm if you are experiencing this particular screen issue on the Pixel?

Yes, I do: the last post is mine. When you turn off the screen for a while it's all fine, but I think it's pretty annoying, especially on a such expensive device (I'll be annoyed on a cheap too anyway).

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

The burn-in happens for a few minutes and goes away. Its more of a problem on max brightness. This happens on many iMacs too.

I currently have no way of controlling my keyboard led's. Or the lightbar... ectool for Arch anyone?

Also, the touchscreen needs calibration, as there is a dead zone that throws low touches off.

I generated this with xinput-calibrator.
sudo xinput set-prop 13 458 0 2560 0 1650
13 is the xinput id, 458 is the xinput propid Evdev Calibration, the rest is the actual calibration values.

To make permanent place the following in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier      "calibration"
        MatchProduct    "Atmel maXTouch Touchscreen"
        Option  "Calibration"   "0 2560 0 1650"
EndSection

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

In my case burn-in goes away only after a while that the monitor is off and it returns after short time is on. Anyway it's ok, I can work with it but I'm disappointed.
Anyway, yesterday I've update packages and the touchpad doesn't work anymore. The strange thing is that touchscreen actually does. I tried to run a live Ubuntu distro just to check that touchpad works and it does (you know, just to be sure). I tried to revert to an old kernel but the touchpad is still unusable. Any advice? I don't know where to start.

I'd like to report this issue since the problem is still in the 2014.01 image. Where can I report it?

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

I have installed arch quite easily using a slightly modified install script. I've yet to write down detailed instructions, but simply getting a copy of this, use the ari.conf.example, and run the script should build it correctly with the 2013.04.01 build of Arch.

https://github.com/mrkent/arch-pixel

The problem I'm having now is that I can't seem to right click with the trackpad in xfce and the chrome F buttons don't retain the functions they are labeled for. Anyone have solution to these problems?

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

Actually I don't like to have chrome F button, I prefer having F1, F2, F3 and so on, just because it's useful having application and environment's shortcut. Anyway I set some chrome F keys with ALT+that key. For brightness you can use xorg-backlight and then map a key combination with the commands `xbacklight -inc VALUE` and `xbacklight -dec VALUE` (I use 10 as value and I set `xbacklight -set 30` at the startup).
For other shortcuts you can take a look here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xbindkeys
With the touchpad I can't help you, I'm sorry. I can tell you that works just great out of the box in Gnome.
Thanks a lot for the installer, I'm done now but I'll share it with G+ community.

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

Any idea on how to make seabios ignore my sd card on boot? It always got ignored before with ext2 and DOS, now with GPT and ext4 my computer hangs on boot unless I remove it, and reinsert it at the right time so it gets mounted through fstab

I've been mounting my sd card to /home and its been working well, with the exception of fsck checks when I don't shutdown properly. My system crashed while trying to run 4 VM's, ssh, terminal and chrome, causing the SD card's superblock to corrupt. I had to format it, this time I chose ext4, not ext2 and made the partition table GPT, not DOS.

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

I must have missed something, because suspend seems to fail every second time it is run. The first resume always works fine.  When resuming the second time, the system is reboots instead (confirmed with journalctl -r).  This always happens the second time I suspend the system, and the result is the same when changing /sys/power/state directly.  Hibernate works though, so I just changed logind.conf to hiberate on lid close instead of suspend. At least until I have time to figure out what went wrong with suspend.

You should probably report this to syslinux developers.

Re: Installing arch on Pixel Chromebook, do anyone has experience?

I figured out how to make the Chromebook Pixel not boot from SD card. I moved the partition 128mb out side the first block... Now it ignores it on boot.
