Hi,
I'm still having trouble dealing with archlinux's approach to perl. The idea of packaging my own perl modules is not practical for me, as I have to install a ton of modules, and it seems to me, that the the "packaging policy" URL is really for one-by-one module installation.
I abandoned using cpan a while ago, and did this
pacman -S perl-cpanplus-dist-arch
setupdistarch
understanding that cpanp was the way to go.
but cpanp gives me alot of circular error reports. And it doesn̈́t seem to know when a package is installed either.
For example, I use cpanp o to get a list of installed packages, and it says WWW::Mechanize is installed. The I do this:
cpanp i WWW::Mechanize
and, it actually tries to install it, which lowers my confidence in it as a tool. It really should look to see if it's installed first.
A typcial error is
[MSG] Module 'ExtUtils::MakeMaker' depends on 'Data::Dumper', may need to build a 'CPANPLUS::Dist::Arch' package for it as well
Now, "cpanp o" already reports Data::Dumper as being installed already, so this MSG is not something I can get my head around.
Any links or suggestions for me? Many thanks!
