Hey guys,
A while ago i reinstalled my system. Ever since then i cannot get HDMI to work anymore. I can enable the port and set resolution just fine, however the attached TV gets no signal.

Probably a better fit for Multimedia... moving.
Anything in dmesg or the journal?

I have no idea what happened, but i can no longer reproduce the issue. Lets hope it doesn't randomly happen again. I will do some more testing and mark this issue as fixed if i can't figure it out.

I have exactly the same issue - can't get HDMI to work after a recent system update.

I've had the same problem for a while and it just reappeared today after updating the kernel. In the past kernel updates have triggered it but downgrading sometimes works and sometimes has no effect. Replacing the HDMI cable appeared to work last time, but the issue just showed up today. Sometimes it won't detect it until I unplug and plug it back in a few times (race condition?).
Normally xrandr assigns the hdmi monitor the name "HDMI2", here's the output of xrandr --verbose
https://gist.github.com/anonymous/4c4f6692dd668f8e2b6e
If I run dmesg -w while plugging and plugging it back in there is no activity whatsoever, which would probably suggest a hardware problem, but then I've had it stop working and then start working many times.
Also I'm using the Intel Iris Pro graphics driver so there should be no real problems as it has excellent Linux support from Intel and nobody has ever complained before (though I guess it could be an uncommon bug).
EDIT: I guess I should also note that I'm using a DVI to HDMI adapter (the monitor only supports DVI), but I don't see why it should be causing intermittent problems like this.
EDIT2: I tried a different monitor (VGA monitor with an active adapter to HDMI) and that didn't work either, also my old HDMI cable (before I replaced it) doesn't work either. I'm beginning to suspect something going wrong with the cables and/or the HDMI port but I'm not sure. I can't remember if I had this problem on my old laptop or not.
EDIT3: I just did a cold reboot (powered off and then on again with the hdmi cable plugged in) and it is now detecting the monitor again, wtf

I still have this problem: the HDMI hasn't worked since this problem appeared for the first time. I've tried updating the system, rebooting -- nothing helps. BTW, I'm also using a DVI to HDMI adapter, but never had problems with it until that system update, which broke it.

Try powering off completely and then on again a few times, which seemed to "work" for me. No clue why. I think it must be the video card getting messed up somehow.

I've tried powering off with no luck. It's also definitely not a hardware issue, as everything works fine when I reboot to Mac OS X.

My best guess is there is a bug going on between the hardware and the graphics driver, but I really have no idea why it would be triggered suddenly. I'm not entirely sure we have the same issue, but it could be related. It actually took me like 10 times to power on and off (using the actual power button) before it started working again. If I find out anything else I'll definitely post here though, and maybe file an actual bug report if I discover how to reproduce it.
