Libreoffice 4.4 menus look like this when using Plasma 5.2:
It does not depend on the libreoffice icon theme.
Is there something I can do to fix this or should I report a bug (to whom? KDE or Libreoffice?)

Switch to the GTK interface. The KDE interface for libreoffice has always been buggy and it doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon.

If I comment everything except gtk in /etc/profile.d/libreoffice-fresh.sh I still get the same menu buttons from the previous screenshot. Is there another way to select the toolkit for libreoffice-fresh?
Nvermind - fixed.

How did you fix it? I have one issue or another with every toolkit I try except for then "gen" generic LibreOffice one.
Using SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde4, I get the same results as the initial screenshot. Ugly selections in menus, and no highlighting of moused-over menu items.
Using SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3, the pulldown menus are unresponsive to mouse clicks, and when I use the Alt key to activate them, the active menu item is unreadable (black foreground text on black background).
Using SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk2, I get the same results as using kde4.
Using SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen, I get an ugly and generic, non-antialiased interface. But this interface is at least fully functional.
Pretty disappointed so far. I was really hoping for a major UI improvement in LO 4.4, but it appears to be a mess in Plasma 5.

@wryfi
You are right, I was too fast to mark this as solved.
With gtk2 I get upside down check marks (✓) and some missing UI elements (like up and down arrows for the font size toolbar button. It's not completely unusable but it looks very ugly. As I said in the first post I'm not sure where a bug report should be opened.

Best is always to recheck official "rpm-based" builds from AUR. If it's broken there then it's an upstream bug. If not our build needs fixing.
Broken menus can be cairo, fonts or Xorg related. Also remember it's a .0 release
That's why we also the -still branch.

The libreoffice-fresh-rpm package from AUR is more functional. It looks like SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN set to kde4, gtk3, and gtk2 all use the same toolkit, which appears to be gtk, but has fully functionally usable menus and UI elements; set to gen it uses the generic toolkit, which also works fine.
