PHP Composer

I recently used PHP Composer for the first time, to install Laravel, and I immediately ran into trouble (as did others). It seems Composer keeps it's own list of available extensions in /usr/share/php-composer/php.ini and fails to recognize, at least the mcrypt extension, as being installed, unless this 'solution' is applied.

As this seems to only affect Arch Linux (so far as I've found), it should definitely be mentioned in the Wiki. The question: is there anyone more experienced with Composer willing to write about it?

On a bit of an unrelated note, this feels like a issue that should be reported, but to whom? Arch? Upstream to Composer? Evidently Arch bug reports already exist, describing how Composer has its own php.ini and how updating Composer overwrites it.

Re: PHP Composer

There isn't any wiki page on PHP composer yet, someone would have to write the generic information before writing about this error.

Re: PHP Composer

The intention was that someone who knows about PHP Composer would be willing to write about it, either in a section of the PHP page, or in a new Composer page. I would do it, but as I mentioned, this was my first use of Composer, and I was surprised to find information regarding it absent from the Wiki in light of the hassle I encountered. Despite the move, that request still stands.

Re: PHP Composer

See the first post for links to unresolved bug reports about this issue from a couple months ago. Someday I'll learn to search thoroughly before posting. Someday.
