Hello. I've searched the wiki and the forums for this problem but could not find any fix, just multiple-monitor issues.
Today I installed arch on a laptop for the first time. I installed the x server and the nvidia drivers, ran "nvidia-xconfig" but startx failed. I then realized my laptop had 2 GPUs and thought it might somehow use the integrated one by default, so I installed "xf86-video-intel" and deleted the nvidia-generated xorg.conf and it worked. I don't mind the x server running on the intel GPU but can I use my nVidia card for certain applications at least ? If not, how can I make xorg run on the dedicated GPU ? Here is the xorg log entry:
[ 51.704] _XSERVTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
[ 51.705] _XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running
[ 51.707] (EE)
Fatal server error:
[ 51.710] (EE) Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running(EE)
[ 51.712] (EE)
Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.x.org
for help.
[ 51.718] (EE) Please also check the log file at "/home/dalian/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

It says the server is already running but I tried startx with nVidia under the same circumstances I did with intel.

Thank you for the link, but still nor working.
I tried the optimus method but now I get the "no screens found error"
Did everything as it says in the wiki.
EDIT: Had to delete x86-video-intel. Now it works. Thanks again, Xabre
