Hi everybody,
so, yesterday i recorded a screencast with recordmydesktop, and now i'm trying to put some
audio from a different source to it, at the right time, of course. Not exactly rocket science, right?
Well, it seems impossible on my system.
I'm working on a Dell E5510 (i5 processor), using an Arch system with recent kernel and awesomeWM.
First of all, the OGV file recordmydesktop produced seems to be faulty. When i try to transcode it to avi
(either with mencoder or ffmpeg), the video comes of way shorter that the audio. Pretty bad.
Second, every video editor i tried seemed to fail somehow.
- openmovieeditor doesn't even compile from AUR
- openshot isn't able to play back anything i add smoothly
- LIVES crashes, like, always, after about one minute, or when i add audio
- Cinelerra-cv doens't even start, i can only see a stamp-sized, empty window on my screen
- lightworks crashes after registration
- PiTiVi is unusable, as every other button doesn't have any effect when clicking it
- PiTiVi-git doesn't install
- Avidemux doesn't offer free time-placement, as far as i know ...
So, blender seems to work somehow, but whenn i import the ogv-file, there's still the problem that it comes out way shorter than the audio, so
i'd need to re-stretch it to the correct time ... don't know if blender can do this.
Anyone got any ideas so far ?
Regards,
n

You could try kdenlive (Community) or flowblade (AUR). Maybe flowblade first because it has more professional features, being a clone of Adobe Premiere. Too bad OpenShot doesn't work for you, it's usually my favorite.

Hmm when i first tried flowblade (forgot to mention that one on my list) , it wasn't really able to play the ogv at all, but now it seems to be working ... are there any special libs requeried ?
It still seems to have some problems with the broken keyframes in the ogv, though ...

No, I think MLT handles all kinds of media formats by itself, including OGV, by using ffmpeg.

Also, ffmpeg was updated today, so maybe that fixed the issue.

You could try kdenlive
Did you try Kdenlive? It's the video editor I've had the most success with. I used it (on my five year old computer) to make some family movies. ![]()

Also I would not prefer recordmydesktop. SSR + Kdenlive are the programs of my choice.

Simplescreenrecorder can also record in MP4/AAC format which works better with video editing programs than Ogg codecs.

Didn't try kdenlive so far, as i didn't want to install all the kde stuff ... flowblade seems to do the trick for now.
I'll try simplescreenrecorder next, makes sense ...

Kdenlive is one of the iMovie/Windows Movie Maker clones on Linux, so for more demanding editing jobs flowblade is probably better anyway. Kdenlive and OpenShot are mostly intended for simple editing tasks.
