getopts long options

Have long options been dropped from getopts. I can find nothing in the manual and -l is not recognised (having said that, -o throws an error, but if omitted the short args are properly recognised)

Thank you. I searched everywhere I could find and not once did anywhere mention there was an internal and an external getopts.

Now to decide, do I make do with short only, or add a program to my dependancies.....Hmmm.
