[SOLVED]Unable to upgrade due to X-server and Catalyst conflicting

This is the error message that I am receiving from pacman

[disco@discolap ~]$ sudo pacman -Syyu

I currently have xorg-server 1.16.4-1. Pacman is trying to update to the newest version of xorg which is 1.17.1-1.  I'm unsure why catalyst-utils is having such a problem with this because it lists xorg-server >= 1.7 as a dependency.

Where does it list xorg-server >= 1.7 as a dependency?
catalyst is not in the official repos, so it's up to you to keep it happy and up to date, if possible.Maybe the latest drivers aren't yet compatible with xorg-server 1.17?

Until catalyst is happy with X Server @ version 1.17, you could use this repo:

Hi, this is my 2nd post smile
Catalyst 14.12 support xorg-server up to 1.16.
Just try ignoring xorg-server package when upgrade

 # pacman --ignore xorg-server -Syu

This doesn't account for other X packages which the user may have installed on their system. Vi0L0's [xorg11X] repositories account for these.

Looks like I have to quote myself again, especially the bit with adding this repository ABOVE [core] in /etc/pacman.conf.

When I said this, I mean for you to put an [xorg116] entry into /etc/pacman.conf; more specifically something looking like this (directly quoted from the Wiki so you don't have to click the Wiki):

[xorg116]
Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/xorg116/$arch
## Mirrors, if the primary server does not work or is too slow:
#Server = http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/archlinux-catalyst/repo/xorg116/$arch
#Server = http://mirror.hactar.bz/Vi0L0/xorg116/$arch

And I have implied, and will now explicitly say that you should not be using --ignore xorg-server because it ignores that specific package and not others, because it will not catch all the X server packages you are running on your system. Use Vi0L0's repository instead.

======

Also, as I've already asked, please used [ code ] tags when posting code.

Re: [SOLVED]Unable to upgrade due to X-server and Catalyst conflicting

Just a heads up to other Catalyst users out there. This happens quite a bit with Xorg and Catalyst. If you're running these together you must pay attention to the updates. Whenever you upgrade your system watch for a Xorg update, then check the Catalyst page to see if there are any reported bugs. I would definitely wait a few days to see if anything pops up. Another way to get around this is to build the drivers from the source and maintain them yourself. Vi0L0 does a great job of maintaining the drivers, however, it's up to you to maintain your system. This will prevent big headaches in the future.

At this point I think that its because I need to add a key-id which should be  653C3094 because it's the same as the catalyst repo.
So I follow what the wiki says to do here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … icial_keys

[disco@discolap etc]$ sudo pacman-key -r 653C3094
[sudo] password for disco:
gpg: connecting dirmngr at '/root/.gnupg/S.dirmngr' failed: IPC connect call failed
gpg: keyserver receive failed: No dirmngr
==> ERROR: Remote key not fetched correctly from keyserver.
[disco@discolap etc]$ sudo pacman-key -f 653C3094
gpg: error reading key: No public key
==> ERROR: The fingerprint of a specified key could not be determined.
[disco@discolap etc]$ sudo pacman-key -lsign-key 653C3094
pacman-key: invalid option -- 's'
[disco@discolap etc]$ sudo pacman-key --lsign-key 653C3094
  -> Locally signing key 653C3094...
==> ERROR: 653C3094 could not be locally signed.

I'm pretty sure that I am just doing this wrong or missing something. hmm

For this error, take a look at this thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 9#p1501589

Re: [SOLVED]Unable to upgrade due to X-server and Catalyst conflicting

Hey thank you very much sir! That worked perfectly smile

Should I being using the guy's catalyst repo as well? I currently have catalyst built from the AUR. Is there an advantage to using the repo over the AUR version? Or are they same?

EDIT: Does anyone know why this is happening now?

Maybe the mirror was temporary offline/unavailable, just try again or try another mirror.

Sorry. I was being unspecific. I am asking why it still says catalyst-utils requires xorg-server < 1.17.0 still. I checked my xorg-server version with pacman -Qi xorg-server it says it's 1.16.4-1.

Re: [SOLVED]Unable to upgrade due to X-server and Catalyst conflicting

Probably because you should put the repository [xorg116] above all the others

Remember to add the chosen repository above all other repositories in pacman.conf, even above your catalyst repository, should you use one.

but it seem you put it under the [catalyst] one.

Ahh I don't know how I missed that from the wiki. However after placing the xorg116 repo above all of my other repos, this is still happening.
