xgl hibernate issues

hi! i'm using suspend2 on my system. if i run the hibernate script during while xgl/compiz are running my system goes to sleep, but when i wake it up i just get a black background with a mouse cursor. Anyone else have this issue? Do xgl and hibernate even work together? normal x sessions seem to work fine.

Of couse it doesn't work. XGL/Compiz is for people who want to stare at their screen for hours, or just for looking pretty for 24/7.

you are ignorant...
xgl does look nice, but it also brings some benefits. who doesn't want there cpu to do less work? if you want it to do the least amount of work, than xgl may be a choice since much of the screen is processed by the graphics card. this frees the cpu for other tasks. i know that one may bring up the argument that cpu's today are extremely powerful and it won't make a difference, but how many window managers do you know of that can **run 3 videos simultaneously with transparencies set, while moving a video and rotating through a 3d cube that shows things on each desktop in realtime (not like a snapshot of each desktop)?** afaik, none do...except for xgl (which made my ati system do it with ease). all of this, and the cpu never jumped above 1% (on a dual AMD Athlon 1800+ system)

it also opens up a lot of functionality, but i'll leave it up to you to discover that since it'll take some time to list it and i don't feel like listing it for someone who doesn't seem to have any care to use it

i'm actually running it on a pentium m, and it doesn't seem to like running on anything lower than 900mhz. I have cpufreqd setup and stuff. My system does have a built in intel card. i810.

I'm running a very similiar setup, and have the same issue (re: suspending. I haven't tried running it w/ my cpu throttled down). Honestly, I chalked it up to the "alpha"ness of XGL, so didn't really pursue fixing it. If you have any success fixing it, I'd love to hear it. For now, plain ol' X is on the laptop .

That reminded me of all the stuff on good ol' funroll-loops.org. Sure you can do it, but why?

to prove what it can do...i'll never use it, but it's to prove that it's possible (and that it uses less cpu cycles). the fact is that it's NOT possible (afaik) on a normal xorg system. it's to show, in an extreme and useless way, the power of xgl. did you read the rest of my post? i'm pretty sure i covered this already...

Easy on I wasn't serious.
Yeah I know what XGL can do, and I really want to try it out. But it would be coolif I could use it without Gnome/KDE/Xfce.

Yea, I can't wait til it works with all WM's...I want to try it out with fvwm-crystal (fvwm with a really nice setup, and it's very light weight so it runs really fast)
