Introducing James a smart bar

I want to show you my application I code in my free time.

I always had the problem to find an application that provides some kind of a smart search bar with useful utilities. You can press Alt+F2 and probably get some kind of standard application-run-bar. But that doesn't do the trick for me.

Therefore I wrote James. It's also a project to learn more about Qt and QML.

James duty is to providea helpful smart searching bar that makes using and navigating a computer more easier.

Right now you can search all your installed applications an run them. You can also search something on wikipedia. It will get opened in your default browser then.

A Lua Plugin is in development, so writing plugins is even simpler. The first version of James only intended a Lua integration, but I rewrote it. So integrating it into a plugin is not a big deal.

A calculator, customized scripts (to compile something, or so) and a global hotkey to bring it to front is also on the list.

It's not the best designed application, I'm not a creative person. But I would like to get some feedback about my idea. Maybe plugin ideas too?

This is a screenshot of James.

It lays on my private git server. I will release it on github soon. Opensource.

What do you think. A good idea, or trash?

Looks like someone had the same idea like me. He even used the same calculator icon I have used in my first version. big_smile

There's also gnome-do, synapse, launchy, kupfer, lighthouse, etc. for completeness. I don't start programs very often, but I always like trying new launchers. They all kind of feel the same though.
