Hi,
I am not able to do a system update anymore. Pacman always hangs after printing "downloading required keys...". I waited up to one hour, but nothing changed.
Here a typical pacman output:
I110946rainere330/etc/pacman.d% s pacman -Syu

I read the arch linux wiki page, and tried to use different keyservers and ports and protocols, but no success (see below (I cancelled everytime with Ctrl + C), after seeing no progress)

Is the date&time set correctly on this machine? Also; the refresh-keys commands hang here as well, does pacman still fail after re-initing?

Hi, thanks for the replies.
@ WorMzy: I tried the exact procedure:
# rm -R /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/
# rm -R /root/.gnupg/ # only if the directory exists
# gpg --refresh-keys
# pacman-key --init && pacman-key --populate
# pacman-key --refresh-keysbut It again was hanging at "pacman-key --refresh-keys" as usual and pacman did not work afterwards too.
@ Spider.007: date and time are correct and synchronized via ntp deamon. pacman still fails. ![]()

Hi blattlaus,
It could be useful if you follow the procedure below (as root and using the default keyserver) and post here the logs:
killall dirmngr
killall gpg-agent
dirmngr --daemon --homedir /etc/pacman.d/gnupg --verbose &> ~/dirmngr.logthen post the output of the following command
gpg --homedir /etc/pacman.d/gnupg --verbose --refresh-keysand finally post the previous generated /root/dirmngr.log
-- EDIT --
PS: can you ping the keyserver?
# ping pool.sks-keyservers.net

What happens if you visit http://keyserver.ubuntu.com/ with the browser? Try to search keys and download them manually.

A webinterface for extracting and submitting keys appears. It looks quite fine.
do I have to specify http protocol anywhere else besides the url?
I now tested on a friends (arch linux) laptop on my internet connection. She is able to upgrade just fine. Pacman prints "downloading required keys..." and then continues just normal. However "pacman-key --refresh-keys" also hangs on her system.
I get the feeling, the two problems are not related, as Spider.007 also indicated.

I don't know if it is a network error however I can only say that sometimes pacman-key (actually gpg, since pacman-key is only a wrapper) takes a few seconds to connect to the keyserver, but no more than a minute. I have no other idea on how to solve your problem... sorry ![]()

Try port 80 instead of the default 11371 .
keyserver hkp://keyserver.kjsl.com:80Maybe your ISP kabelsalat-deutschland is blocking the port.

thank you... I somehow solved the problem:
the command
pacman-key --refresh-keys --keyserver http://keyserver.ubuntu.comseems to have nothing to do at all with the pacman operation. As this command failed with changed keyservers, I thought that pacman upgrade will also fail.
After changing /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/gpg.conf to
no-greeting
no-permission-warning
lock-never
keyserver http://keyserver.ubuntu.com
keyserver-options timeout=10pacman upgrade worked fine ![]()
however I still do not understand at all, why it is working for my friend with the default settings and on the same internet connection.

Hey,
tried the various posibilites mentioned above and in other Threads to update my system. (Edit/Delete gpg config, different keyserver, reinit all with pacman-key)
Nothing did work, but i just tried to disable the key signing as mentioned [1].
SigLevel = NeverUpdated my System.. saw that keys were changed and then put it back to:
SigLevel = Required DatabaseOptionalAfter a while i tried to update again and it worked perfectly again
