Arch linux doesn't recognises micro SD card

Hi,

I'm running Arch linux on my laptop.
The laptop has Multi-in-1 card reader.

I just bought a micro SD card with an adapter so I can it plug in into this card reader.

But the Arch linux system doesn't recognise it so I can't use it.
I tried with Gparted too without any success:
I get Gparted error:
Output/Input error during read on /dev/mmcblk0

whyle on the virtual console I get error messages:

mmcblk0: error -84 transferring data, sector 7, nr 1, cmd response 0x900, card status 0x0
Buffer I/O error on dev mmcblk0, logical block 0, async page read

However, this same micro SD card has been recognised on MS Windows  system.

What can I do to solve this problem on my Arch linux system?

Regards, from Paul

Re: Arch linux doesn't recognises micro SD card

I just bought another brand ( Samsung ) of micro SD card ( Class 6 ) and it works out of the box.
The previously mentioned micro SD card is Kingstone, Class 10. It is not recognized by the Arch linux system kernel.
So I can say: the problem is solved.
Mybe somebody can tell why one card works, the other does not.

I must add after few days that, that the Samsung micro SD card works not with the SD card adapter, but only with an USB microSD card reader, that I also had to buy.

I tried it but without success.
The microSD card with SD card adapter doesn't work with this setup.

I can use my microSD card with USB microSD card reader only.

Re: Arch linux doesn't recognises micro SD card

Some laptop SD readers need certain "quirk patches" in the kernel to work. Mine is one of them (Acer V3-571, integrated Broadcom SD card reader). As many of these patces never make it to upstream, the SD reader won't work. I just put up with an external reader and that's it.

Then if you feel like compiling your own kernel, these are the necessary patches for the SD reader in the Acer V3-571:

Thank you very much!! smile

However, on my Acer V3-571 laptop on which I run Arch linux I'm using the 3.18.6-1 linux kernel out there, so I think this patch is not compatible with this kernel.

This patch is for linux-2.6 3.12.0 and is "Compile Tested" only.

Re: Arch linux doesn't recognises micro SD card

Installing "opensc" package from the official repository solved all my problems related to SD Card smile
