I have a mac and a windows laptop on the same network as my arch setup, is there a way to connect to them. If so, how and what could I do?

What do you mean? If they are on the same network, they are connected. What do you want to do?

I don't know, thats what I want to find out. Could I talk with someone using the other computer, or could I access the computer in anyway?

Yes. Thare are *many* ways. That's why I was asking what you want to accomplish. You could set up network file sharing [1], share printers or other devices [2], setup remote desktop or vnc [3], etc, etc. All of these require the cooperation of the users of those other computers. If you don't have that, then you should not ask this here (or anywhere).

Thank you, and don't worry I wasn't trying to secretly hack into a computer on my network. Will these methods work with other OSes or does it not matter?

Any trivial search or reading on any of these topics would provide an immediate answer to that question. Feel free to ask questions when you don't know where to look - but be sure to do your own research too.
