Hello, Arch and general Linux noob here
I'm experimenting with different WMs and DEs and now I wanted to try Xfce with Kwin, inspired by this: http://thelinuxrain.com/articles/tutori … -with-xfce
I installed the kwin package but it doesn't seem to be the right package to get kwin running, because I get "command not found" when trying to run "kwin --replace".
So I uninstalled the kwin package and installed the kdebase-workspace package instead and now I'm able to run kwin. But the kdebase-workspace package with all its dependencies is kinda heavy for my needs.
Now two questions:
1) What is the kwin package for, if it doesn't include the kwin command/binary (however you call it on linux )?
2) Is there any way to install kwin, outside of the kdebase-workspace package, with as little dependencies as possible?

It's called kwin_x11 or kwin_wayland now.

You can generally run "pacman -Ql package_name | grep bin" to see executables.

Ahh perfect, thank you!
And thanks lucke for this useful command, have put it on my cheatsheet

Followup question: I have now installed the kwin package again and I am able to run kwin with "kwin_x11 --replace", but when I try to open the "Window Manager Settings" nothing happens. In the terminal where I started kwin I get this:
klauncher not running... launching kdeinit
Could not open library '/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kcmshell5'.
Cannot load library /usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kcmshell5: (/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kcmshell5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
kwin_core: Failed to start kcmshell5: "KDEInit could not launch 'kcmshell5':
Could not open library '/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kcmshell5'.
Cannot load library /usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kcmshell5: (/usr/lib/libkdeinit5_kcmshell5.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)"
I suppose I need to install some kde packages that the kwin package didn't include. Any idea what's missing? klauncher, kdeinit or kcmshell don't seem to be individual packages.

Another trick: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pkgfile

libkdeinit5_kcmshell5.so is a part of kde-cli-tools

Thanks alot! I just realized how powerful pkgfile is. Installed kde-cli-tools and now I can open the kwin settings manager. Learning something new every day.
