GTK Theming parsing error: engine 'adwaita' not found [SOLVED]

Some applications look glitched when using certain themes. When I try opening gsimplecal, for example, I get the following error with the boje-greyscale theme:

(gsimplecal:3032): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-widgets.css:2:19: Theming engine 'adwaita' not found

And with the ambience-blackout:

(gsimplecal:3013): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-widgets.css:63:17: Theming engine 'unico' not found

Both themes are supposed to be GTK3 compatible. I already have gnome-themes-standard installed. Other affected applications include nm-applet and pnmixer. These applications worked fine with those themes in #!, fwiw. I searched the forums and found similar threads, but none of them helped with my problem.

Crunchbang uses an ancient GTK 3 version (3.4?), and themes typically break on a new GTK3 release. Ask the author to update his theme, find GTK2 alternatives for your applications (typically in AUR), or use Adwaita.

Can you show SS of "looks glitched"?  I installed the theme to try it out and gsimplecal looks like http://i.imgur.com/2gfhDEv.png

It's not as noticeable in gsimplecal, apart from the squares not aligning with the numbers, but I'll post a screenshot of pnmixer's settings window. You can see the check box missing, background on button's text; sorry for not being specific. I think I'll try updating the theme myself, at least for my own use.

I have the exact same problem with Moka.

(proc:PID): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-widgets.css:L:C: Theming engine 'adwaita' not found

@ralph_13 why did you marked the thread as solved? I see no solution.

@Alad I don't see what you are trying to say. I understand nothing about gtk, but the error seems not to come from the theme itself but from the gtk parser that fails to fallback to the default theme. How is it possible that it does not find it?

@Alad, it seems you were right. I quote Moka's author:

Moka GTK Theme is no longer maintained. No support for GTK 3.16.
