ALSA - Applications restart after output change

Hello!

I am trying to understand an issue I'm having with audio which I find quite annoying and would like, if possible, to implement a fix for this. However, I need help understanding.

The problem I see is that whenever I plug in my USB head set or unplug it, although my udev rules to change the output source work fine, I am forced to restart the application. Take for example Chrome, if I had my headset connected  when I opened it and disconnect after to reproduce a video on YouTube, it won't play on the speakers unless I close Chromium and re open it.

Any clues on what could the problem be?

Have you tried to let pulseaudio control alsa ?
pulseaudio-alsa package
