consolefonts is unreadble when starting x with nvidia

Hi all happy ppl. in arch!!!

I have nvidia installed and starting X with xdm everything works fine except when I switching over to my VC1, ...., VC6, I can´t read what is sais because all text is destroyed/scrambeld up into green, white pixels. I tried to log into one of my VC without having the visual, then I created a file. After doing that I switched back to X and saw that my file indeed were created.

I have tried to search for some information about this on this forum, but can´t find any thing that would be useful for me....or at least I think so big_smile
At my opinion of view, I think nvidia destroys my consolefonts, since if I change my "nvidia" driver in my xorg.conf to ...let say.."vesa" and keeping all other options my VC works fine.

Btw. I only use one monitor no dual, twin view or stuff like that.

I put my hope in you guys....or maybe you can give me some direction to dig further.

Re: consolefonts is unreadble when starting x with nvidia

I think the problem might be with kdm, not nvidia.

I use startx from console, and all vc's are readable.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: consolefonts is unreadble when starting x with nvidia

I am using xdm and fluxbox, maybe I should change to gdm instead....

It is just the fact that I can login and create a file without actually seeing anything that I was thinking about my console fonts. I hope that there will be a way to change the console fonts after X has been started.  I will keep on digging until I find some thing...

if it is only an issue outside X then it is likely a locale problem and not to do with nvidia.

I've got the same problem and I guess the problem is that the nvidia-driver does not like the vesa framebuffer (vga=...). So if you've enabled the framebuffer you can try disabling it to see if that fixes the problem.

I got this problem when I do a cat scan (ex. for detecting installed mice)
never got a solution for this, perhaps in your xorg.conf giving some extra console font settings (I know they are there)
but standard they are left empty, well in my ocasion that is, but I don't have any problems with switching to a different vc

You mean rc.conf?

Yeah, I think he must mean rc.conf.

Now when my VC works I tested to change the consolefonts in rc.conf but they did not follow after when X started up, they have been changed by nvidia (I think). Is there a possiblity to set the consolefont in your xorg.conf??
