Disappearing built-in USB webcam on ASUS Zenbook U500VZ

Hey all,

I'm running Arch (up to date) on the laptop as described above and can't get the internal Chicony webcam to work. When the machine is first fired up, dmesg shows lots of this...

[25780.053288] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam (04f2:b36e)
[25780.065500] input: USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1.3/3-1.3:1.0/input/input71
[25782.503419] usb 3-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 44
[25905.441452] usb 3-1.3: new high-speed USB device number 45 using ehci-pci
[25905.624144] uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam (04f2:b36e)
[25905.636387] input: USB2.0 HD UVC WebCam as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1.3/3-1.3:1.0/input/input72
[25907.817489] usb 3-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 45

...and then the device remains disconnected till I next restart. It's not present in the output of lspci or lsusb.

Not really sure where to go from here-- 'uvcvideo' module is loaded at start-up without me adding it in.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Sorry for the "me too" type of bump, but were you able to find a solution to this Underphil ?
