Hi,
In my main rig I use for my OSs a Mushking Chronos 240 gb. Yesterday when I turned on the computer, I found that Arch didn't boot, so I entered UEFI/BIOS only to find that the disk didn't even appeared. I tried booting into a live system (arch linux and debian), but none of them detected the disk. gparted/parted/gdisk didn't either.
I tried changing sata ports, but it was the only disk that didn't work.
Here is a full dmesg output:
Here it is what _I believe_ could be important, but searching about the error, didn't look anywhere close to what the symptoms I'm finding:

I've had this from time to time. Try this:
Disconnect the SSD and boot to a working system (either HD or live distro, it doesn't matter)
Plug the SSD in while the system is running (SATA supports hotplugging, so should be fine), and see if the booted OS picks it up. If so, leave it connected and reboot as normal. With luck, the drive will now be recognised.
I don't know the science. but I'm guessing it forces a reset of something somewhere. Your data will not be at risk with this.

It's not looking good, but to be sure, have you tried different cables (both power and sata)?
Failing that, do you have access to another system that you can test the drive in to rule out a MB problem?

Yes, I tried different cables, including the ones that feeds the other disk drive, so I'm quite sure they are working fine. Nowadays, nobody uses rigs here
, only stupid tablets and some people laptops, so it's quite hard to find a system to check it.
I guess I'll take it to a specialized place to see if they can access the contents
Nevertheless, I don't really care about the data (I make backups, and that disk only have the OS), but I don't feel like buying another ssd :c

My 2 years old corsair forcegt is still up and running.
I work as computer technician and your issue sounds like the SSD controller has gone.
You could try to clear the cmos battery with a jumper (and/or replace the battery), but make sure to remove the ssd before that.

SATA -> USB converter? Should work even on a tablet. ![]()
Also check if there's firmware updates available for your SSD and mainboard.

It makes sense. I had to package the computer though because we are moving, as soon as I can I see how I'm suppose to reset the CMOS battery. Though I belive my mobo Asus Maximux V Formula, has a nice "reset" red button, with clear with letters reading CMOS. Would that be enough?

I have tried to look for sata -> USB converters, but I haven't being able to find one
. I guess I'll get one from ebay, because in local shops it's a no-go. About updating the firmware I guess it could work... but I don't understand how it could be related to this issue.

Instead of a converter, assuming you have any other machine, you could buy a SATA external case and put your hard drive in that then attach it to any other machine you have. If it is a controller issue the drive won't show up using on your machine but will do fine on another one. The external cases are pretty cheap and I've used one many times for situations like this.

Thanks for the idea, I will look onto it. Hopefully the next week I'll have news. As soon as I have any, I'll update here ![]()
