This is a request for help to all the Abiword GURUS in Archland. I have been trying for the past three weeks to activate the spell-check feature in Abiword under Arch/KDE. I have added the additional Plugin-ins package as well as aspell and ispell. Despite the fact that I have selected "English" in Abiword Preferences, the spell-check icon remains grayed out and refuses to do it's thing.
I have also tried installing OpenOffice and it's spell check function works perfectly. Has anyone else experienced the same problem with Abiword?

have you installed a matching aspell dictionary?

Tnx for the response.
I assumed that by installing aspell it add (as a dependancy) all of the necessary componants required to function properly. From withinn the Abiword application I selected the American English Dictionary. Could you be a bit more specific as to how I can add/activate the proper Dictionary?

TNX pressh!
I did a man-page on aspell and it's all greek to me. I was hoping for a simple "select the appropriate language", but that doesn't seem to be the case.
First: is aspell the best dictionary program to use with Abiword? Second: if so, if I do a # aspell, which option do I use?
I'm a bit surprised that there isn't more infromation available to the setup procedure.
any suggestions?

zzano, pressh's post shows that the actual languages are available as separate packages. So you'll want to pacman -S aspell-en, for example. Once done, Abiword should "just work".
I am a gated community.

TNX stonecrest. My bad. The man page for aspell showed quite a few command line options which could be envoked... but little in the way of guidance. I appreciate your time and will give it a try tonight.

Aspell-en download worked fine and mispelled words are undeerscored in red. However, Abiword crashes when spell checker is activated. apparently this is a known bug as reported on google.
