Samsung M288X filter problem (gstoraster)

Hey guys,

i set up my arch system after i got new hardware. But now my printer Samsung M288X doesn't work anymore when I try to print with Chromium. Printing with the lp command works fine.
Cups Backend says stopped "Filter failed"

In my error log (/var/log/cups/error_log) i found one strange line.
[Job 44] PID 1226 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/gstoraster) stopped with status 139 (Directory not empty)
As i sad printing some files (pdf or text) with lp on the command line works fine.

pacman -Q:

local/cups 2.0.2-3
local/cups-filters 1.0.67-1
local/cups-pdf 2.6.1-2
local/cups-pk-helper 0.2.5-1
local/lib32-libcups 2.0.2-1
local/libcups 2.0.2-3
local/splix 2.0.0-12
local/gutenprint 5.2.10-1

If you have any solutions or need more informations don't hesitated and let me know smile
Maybe anyone has a solution.

Cheers
Steffen

Re: Samsung M288X filter problem (gstoraster)

Hi Noies

I just found your problem while searching for mine... which appears to be very similar to yours.
I have the exact same suspicious line in the cups error log.
Command line printing also works but I'm not able to print a test page from cups web interface.

I'm with cups 2.0.2-2 and the troubling printer is in a local network. I suspect something with the new cups version since the printer works well with other users and used to work well from my laptop few weeks ago.

Did you finally found something ?

Re: Samsung M288X filter problem (gstoraster)

I'm not sure if this is related to an earlier problem, discussed at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=194470.
I too was having problems described in that thread, but some days later an update to Cups and the filters was published. At first it seemed the update fixed the problem, as before the update I couldn't print anything.

However, I'm still getting these "filter failed" problems too, but the specific error is a bit different:

D [31/Mar/2015:23:32:25 +0300] [Job 287] Running command line for gs: gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dSAFER -sDEVICE=ps2write -sOUTPUTFILE=%

D [31/Mar/2015:23:32:25 +0300] [Job 287] PID 14961 (pstops) stopped with status 1!
D [31/Mar/2015:23:32:25 +0300] [Job 287] PID 14958 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops) stopped with status 1.

Strangely enough, I can print with Chromium and from the command line, but Seamonkey and Firefox fail on specific pages, while other pages print correctly.
