[resolved]LVM commands hang (vgchange, vgs, lvs, etc)

When I issue:

vgchange -ay

it does not return after at least 20min.

My hardware environment is laptop with two drives. One boots fine, the other drive did, and I am in process of reinstalling Arch to it. Arch 64 bit fully updated.

Further, no LVM command works now:lvs, vgs, lvdisplay.

The problem occurred after I messed up a LVM managed drive, so I thought I could just /dev/zero the first couple thousand bytes.
The drive came back, I could remanage it under LVM, including pv,vg,lv and lay down fs and now this problem.

It is odd since Linux boots under LVM, but I believe the situation on the other drive (in a caddy in optical bay) is causing the hang.

Do you have a tip or link to doc for this issue?
Tks

Resolution details:
Edited /etc/lvm/lvm.conf
changed locking line from 1 to 0
then vgchange worked.
rebooted
changed it back
then all ok.

Probably not right and dangerous, but so far, no side effects.
