Zombie Steam caused OS to freeze

I've used the search button and found nothing about it.

$ uname -r
3.19.2-1-ARCH

Steam is updated. I left it opened for friend list and it got "zombified" like this guy: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamC … 097136471/

Using ps/top/htop I've found steam was the zombie process 1160 child of 1146. I've searched the web for ways to "kill" (I know you can't kill what's already dead) zombie processes without results.

The only strange thing I noticed was that kworker was hanging out for 2 minutes and was using 7% of CPU time (and it's a lot for a i7-4710MQ).
I haven't had the time to investigate as the computer started freezing: firstly keyboard was unresponsive (neither caps lock nor backlight were working), secondly workspaces were locked (mouse cursor was changing, but not the background, it was like taping a picture on a TV playing a movie), thirdly mouse cursor got stuck. I had to force shutdown by pressing the power button.

I don't have any clue about what I should look for to investigate.
