What is this and how do I remove it? (GNOME 3.16) [Solved]

As per the subject. Just upgraded to GNOME 3.16 and this annoying menu has appeared. Any ideas how to get rid of it would be gratefully received.

On two occasions I have been asked [by members of Parliament], ‘Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?’ I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

I installed Topicons extension: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/495/topicons/
Which moved these to the top bar.
I agree with you - this 'drawer' is often in the way and not helpful...

I am normally 100% behind GNOME 3 but this drawer and the ctrl-delete change are not that fun! Thanks for the extension suggestion.

Well, the ctrl-delete change is definitely something to get used to, but actually it is more consistent with other platforms now. I was so used to hold down ctrl when deleting in nautilus, that I couldn't delete files on any other platform any longer wink.

By the way: Are there any shortcuts for this drawer thing in the bottom corner? So far I only figured out "Alt + Tab". I think this makes kind of sense once you have a few applications, which are (still) using the system tray.

I wish this thing showed up only when the mouse reaches the bottom left corner. This would maintain the functionality and not get in the way.

Yes, even in the "hidden" state it is kind of disturbing, i.e. when using Firefox "search" functionality :'(.

It is hard to spot when in the hidden state. After updating to GNOME 3.16 it was only after searching in Google that I found where the tray icons had gone! Although I find it a little annoying that if you leave your mouse in the corner then the "pressure" causes the tray to pop out and then you have to explicitly go and put it back. It's damn ugly with that tray popped out.

I do prefer the change to the delete/trash in Nautllus as it makes sense even if we have to get used to it. Shift-delete is always there to immediately delete a file and apparently that's common on windows/mac.

Although I seem to be ignoring the bottom panel, stupid though it is, I am hating this new delete behaviour. Do we really need an OSD once we've initiated a delete. Undo really? Can't we just undelete from the wastebasket. Idiotic decision. And I really am a GNOME fan.

First post but seems really noob to use an extension to solve it, how can I return to the old gnome, or can you suggest me a new desktop environment with less animation and less memory consuming (I still want an interface not quite ready for awesome)?

I used to sort of like gnome but moved to cinnamon after the latest changes (OCD issues with that panel) ... haven't looked back since.
