Wi-Fi suddenly stopped working on XFCE

Usually I'm connected by the ehternet port, but sometimes I have to move and since yesterday mi wi-fi stopped working, in fact it recognizes all the  networks around but when I try to connect to one it simply doesn't. I'm trying to do it from nm-applet and I don't know hot to do it from console to get some feedback about whats going on.

Re: Wi-Fi suddenly stopped working on XFCE

First thing to do would be to look at the logs and see if there are any error messages.

I put at button on it. Yes. I wish to press it, but I'm not sure what will happen if I do.  (Gune | Titan A.E.)

Re: Wi-Fi suddenly stopped working on XFCE

Seems like there's a problem with kernel 3.19 and some broadcom cards, there used to be a message about 0x17 and 0x18 but now that i have the LTS kernel is gone... unfortunately I can test it yet cause the gtk3 update is disabling the nm-applet and there's no way to connect to wifi.

You can always connect manually; and it has the advantage of printing specific error messages.

You are right jasonwryan... i should hav said "I don't know how to connect manually" tongue

Quick Update: the nm-applet is related to the pixel size of the applet, right now I decreased it to 21pixels and it shows in the notification area, and also Wifi is working all of a sudden.

I had problems, too, a few month ago, but it seems to be gone with kernel 3.19.

To use the command line, you can do

nmcli d w

to see the available wifis and then

nmcli d w connect <SSID> password <password>

to connect.

Hasn't this been sorted after the recent gtk3 update?

AFAIK the problem with gtk3 was related to the dissapearance of the nm-applet, but in my case there was no applet but also I couldn't connect to a WiFi previously used.
