I recently setup an Epson Premium XP-620 on my network (static IP).
I am able to scan with it using the epkowa driver - however when I start iscan it takes over 10 minutes to bring up the GUI, which then allows me to continue scanning.
I read in the wiki that this can happen if other drivers are enabled in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf - so I have remarked all of them out (except "net").
The problem continues. Any idea? Thanks!

My advice is to comment all but ONE (e.g. you may have epson, epson2 and epkowa enabled at the same time, try leaving only epkowa uncommented). Another thing to try then is to edit /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf and explicitly add the correct usb, e.g:
usb 0x04b8 0x08a8

It is a network printer/scanner - not USB.
Besides, I did exactly this already - I set the IP of the device in epkowa.conf and commented out every other device (save "net" and "epkowa") from dll.conf; same problem.

I have the same problem (long startup delay) with an USB Epson scanner. Already removed everything except its entry from dll.conf, the epkowa.conf file only contains the USB-line with the device id, and that's it.
After the delay a box will popup that lets me choose from either "Epkowa unknown" which doesn't work and "Epkowa interpreter" which works. I wonder if this unknown thing is the cause for the delay, something gets probed that shouldn't get probed?

Do you face the same problem if you used xsane instead?

For me it's the same, whether I use
a) GIMP -> "Create image from XSane dialog", or
b) ImageScan
Ie long delay and then the dialogue with the 2 scanners of which the 2nd works.
