Installing Arch Linux on a guest across achitechtures

Hello,

I am attempting a very unusual install. Basically, the only computer I have available at the moment is a powerpc mac running Gentoo (but not OSX). I want to install archlinux on a usb drive for x86_64 architecture, with the intention of it acting as a live usb/pocket distro, so I don't know in advance the specifics of  what its running on short of the basic arch.
This is very simple to do in debian so I figure it should be reasonably doable in Arch Linux as well. I found this guide https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _a_USB_key which is close to what I am looking for but it requires another x86_64 pc, which I don't have at the moment. How might I manually install Arch Linux onto a flash drive from a seperate linux system of different architecture?

That is quite tricky. It would be easiest if you had a PC emulator. My guess is to build pacman for PowerPC. Then tell it to install packages of the i686 (or x86_64 if you prefer 64bit) architecture. You will still need to run x86 programs to complete the installation.

Not likely to work, since you need the processor available to make pacman work if it has to execute any scripts in installation.  Maybe something is available at the library.

I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

Thanks for the suggestions. I have lots of time to spare so I think I will just see about a qemu setup to do the install.
