[SOLVED] Hard disks working positions : horizontal versus vertical
Hello,
I use a desktop PC with some hard disk drives inside running. Normally this PC stands vertically on a table and so the disks inside stand horizontally.
But recently it turned out that it was better for the CPU that the PC could stand horizontally on the table, so that the air cooling (a Zalman CNPS7500-ALCU) could be more efficient.
Does this matters for the disks that i change the position ? Does that hurts the disks ?

You would have to look into the datasheet for the disks you plan to use. A proper datasheet is something that is hard to come by but this is one of the things that should be stated there.
As an example check section 6.4.4 of this document[1]. Mind you that is for that specific disk series, it _does not_ apply to all disks, always check the datasheet for _your_ drive model before trying.

Thanks a lot for this information. I checked the section 6.4.4 and it was interesting to read something like :
Performance and error rate will stay within specification limits if the drive is operated in the other permissible orientations from which it was formatted.
Thus a drive formatted in a horizontal orientation will be able to run vertically and vice versa.
I would have to find the datasheets relative to my disks.
