Hi guys,
I use LightDM as my Login Manager with Cinnamon.
I have this strange issue where just before LightDM loads i get a grey background with a spinning wheel?
I have a video of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQNERl-sOl0
It only lasts for a couple of seconds but id like to know what the hell it is!
I can't find anything responsible for it.
Here is a list of everything that is enabled on boot -

Thanks for having a look mate.
I've done some Googling but can't find reference to it on the VirtualBox site ![]()

I use VBox (Arch guest, Win 8 host) and see no such wheel thing. Did you try starting cinnamon manually? (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinitrc)

Thanks for getting back to me ![]()
Disabling LighDM and running via xinitrc get's rid of it.
Although for some reason using xinitrc Cinnamon will only load into software rendering mode?
So this must be something caused by LightDM?

Spoke too soon ![]()
It's still there, even with LightDM disabled.
Any further ideas?

== Update ==
Reinstalled GDM so i could run:
sudo pacman -Rs gdm Which removed quite a few things that had been left from a previous install.
Then deleted all packages & references to I3 using the same command.
Rebooted into Kernel 4.0, everything looks good!
Rebooted into LTS kernel, everything looks good! (I use LTS so that Virtualbox actually works)
Will keep an eye on this as it was an intermittent problem.

It's a plymouth animation. I tried plymouth for a week or three (and got the animation), and the animation stayed after I deleted plymouth. I don't remember what I did to get rid of it.
An old man, trying to stay sane

You probably rebuilt your kernel (mkinitcpio) which rebuilt your initrd. If you have plymouth listed in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, it will be built into the initrd. To get rid of it, you need to take out the plymouth hook and rebuild.

Thanks for looking at this guys.
I did use Plymouth a couple of months ago but could never get it working properly with Virtualbox.
I did disable it and remove it from my mkinitcpio months ago (which i then rebuilt)
I removed the Plymouth package last night at the same time i removed GDM and since then the problem *touches wood* seems to have gone away.
Is it possible i was getting that animation just by having Plymouth installed?! I can't find anything in the wiki about it.
Really appreciate your input on this one guys.
