gst-plugins is just the gstreamer framework. I guess you want gstreamer-plugins.

gst-plugins provides the base gstreamer plugins e.g. volume control - without them, gstreamer can do nothing. gst-plugins-{foo,bar,etc} provide specific codecs, and other functionality not provided by the core application.

How's that for logic?

Yep, pacman -Sg should show gstreamer-plugins as a group... If it doesn't, then there's a problem.

Then the name is confusing, isn't it. gst-plugins sounds like "fetch all gst-plugins".

Agreed - if you know nothing about gstreamer and its structure, this could be misleading.

Another good reason to get 0.10 out the door - the equivalent package is called gstreamer0.10-base, while the plugin group is gstreamer0.10-plugins.
