Nautilus Woes

Well, since last night nautilus screws over and makes my computer hang for a period of time then restarts itself, this happended with 2.12. I update to 2.14 and the problem presists. There are no errors when running nautilus with --debug. Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Re: Nautilus Woes

Wipe/backup your config and see if it still occurs.

rm -rf ~/.gnome* ~/.gconf*

Re: Nautilus Woes

WillySilly first creat another user account such as test just to make sure that it is not user specific. Then wipe out .metacity .gconf* .gnome* .metacity and anything else that might be related but make sure all of teh gnome services are ended even if you are in console.

Re: Nautilus Woes

You could always strace it and see what it's actually doing that takes up time?

I would just love the terminal more, move away from the dark side of GUI, WillySilly

Or you could use sysprof (in AUR) to profile your system.

Re: Nautilus Woes

It seems like its the gtk main loop in nautilus that causing it. If anyone wants to look a the big sysprof log it can be found here

when a gtk application starts, often it'll load config, make some widgets and things, and then it starts the gtk-main-loop, inside which, things actually happen and things will go onscreen. Every gtk app has one.
