After many many years of seeing all those McDonald's drive-thru windows with Windows BSODs (and others), so it begins with Linux:

Oddly enough, I'd really like to know what airline that is.
Has anyone seen other instances of things like this?

Uhh .. do you not believe him when he says it's Air Algerie? :?
Although, as one comment says, it could be an Airbus decision to install it in the first place - the airline would provide the content.

Ya know, I completely glazed over that, and read it as "the display on this Airbus 3300" (or whatever)... :oops:

How do we know that is truly a kernel panic? Its *looks* normal to me but I really can't make out the messages....In fact it looks like its beyond the kernel and into the init scripts. Can anyone else make them out?

Click on 'all sizes' and go to 'original size' - it's like 3000x2000 or something retartedly large.

My Software Development professor forced that to happen on a Delta Song airliner once. He said that everything about that flight annoyed him so he started looking for ways to crash it... the passenger computer system anyway. I guess delta song flights give everyone a media terminal because he said he found a bug in a tetris game on it.
There was an input box for the level with inc/decrement buttons next to it. The box also let you type in the level. Now it said you can only enter 1-4. When it got to four, the inc button greyed out. He also tried entering higher and lower values than specified, but nothing worked; except for the number 5.
The inc button didn't grey out either, so he just kept incrementing using the button until he got up to 127. When he incremented to 128, the computer locked up and entered the restart sequence. He looked around and one-by-one, everyone elses did the same.
He started off the story by saying, "Before we get started, anyone want to know how I made the linux penguin show up on everyone's computer terminal on one of my flights?"

Here's my best guess:
mkdir /ixpelt
mount 128.1.6.1/ixpelt /ixpelt
[ 0 -ne 0 ]
xset.sh
trap 1
DEFAULT_PACKET_SIZE=1760
DEFAULT_DELAY_PACKET=-2500
WAITFOR=6
[ -f /tmp/httpserver_def.sh ]
. /tmphttpserver_def.sh
export HTTPSERVER=128.1.6.1
export FILESERVER=128.1.6.1
export DLD_HOST=128.1.6.1
start_xset
exec
svc: bad direction 1650011936, dropping request
etc

I've seen similar at a bank office. Each floor had a LCD touchscreen gui, where you can search for someone's number, and call them from the terminal
had no gui, just a blank terminal screen with Red Hat 9.0 written on the top

There are a few embedded systems, which display the route the bus will take.

Well it just two radios. 1 is the local radio which the bus driver as control over and the other one is a communcation radio for the buses to talk to each other.

Of course I'ld need to know root, and then recompile the kernel with some obscure opt flags, wrong modules and some stuff. Ore plugin wrong ram chips with bad timing in the bios. Worth a try, humh? Who would donate for that project?

that is one of the brand new airbusses delivered since december last year, air algerie was one of the customers, so was Turkish Airlines, I have been at the one with Turkish which has the same system installed (which is delivered by Panasonic Avionics)
there were some minor issues because they are using a brand new system that is still in some kind of beta
