Hey guys, I have a nvidia card and i'm trying to get GDM / Cinnamon to run but GDM crashes and I get some weird errors. I think it has something to do with mesa ..
Here is my journalctl and my Xorg.0.log
the journalctl link is a drop link because it's too large for pastebin - if i should upload it somewhere else please tell me

Not an Installation issue, moving to NC...

UPDATE:
I've replaced nvidia-libgl with mesa-libgl and now I can login - but now cinnamon reverts to software rendering. It seems as tho nvidia needs the nvidia-libgl which in return is buggy and doesn't start gdm at all.

As a workaround have you tried replacing gdm with lightdm and its gtk3 greeter that combination works for me with the nvidia driver and cinnamon.

Try editing /etc/gdm/custom.conf and uncommenting the following line:
#WaylandEnable=false
Since 3.16 GDM launches in wayland which is currently incompatible with the proprietary nvidia driver. It should seamlessly fallback to using X when wayland fails, but some people are reporting that the fallback isn't so seamless.
If that doesn't work it may be related to some other issues gdm has where it creates multiple gnome-shells on different ttys which seems to cripple hardware accel in certain environments, in which case switch to lightdm as the previous poster mentioned.

Sadly is neither Wayland nor gdm - it seems to be nvidia-libgl, maybe in combination with my graphics card nvidia gtx 960 that has a bug. with lightdm i get past the login but then cinnamon crashes. exactly what i've suspected. have to somehow get an older package of nvidia-libgl cus i've reinstalled arch and don't have them anymore

Also the Xorg.0.log only shows 1 initrd if your system is intel based https://www.archlinux.org/news/changes- … deupdates/

Thanks for the tip ioqs, i've installed the microcode.img,
regarding libgl - i've rolled all packages back to the 22nd of April and now everything works just fine. really seems to be a nvidia driver problem.
