Hello, I am attempting to get a DisplayLink USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter to work and I am having some difficulties. I attempted to follow the Arch Wiki on this but had no luck.
My main issue is that when I run "# xrander --listproviders" I do not see my DisplayLink adapter at all. Here is my output.
Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x90 cap: 0xb, Source Output, Sink Output, Sink Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 5 associated providers: 0 name:Intel
Provider 1: id: 0x62 cap: 0x7, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload crtcs: 2 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:nouveauI did try blacklisting the udlfb kernel module and loading the udl, followed by a reboot, but that didn't change the output.
I also read a bit about an old package called xf86-video-fbdev-for-displaylink, but it seems as though that is no longer in the Arch repo's.
Specs
HP Pavilion dv7t-7000
Intel Core i7
Intel integrated graphics
Nvidia GeForce 630M
Using the default free drivers (mesa)

Displaylink3 is using HDCP encryption, which will need to be figured out if these things are to work in Linux. Dave Airlie, a long time Linux graphics developer, has been poking around with it a few months ago, but nothing came of it. You can read his adventures at his blog: http://airlied.livejournal.com/
Basically, for now these things are unusable in Linux. "Content protection" FTW! ![]()

Greeeaattt! So would a DisplayLink 2 adapter work better? I'm sure I can still return this one at my local Micro Center and get a different cable if need be.
EDIT
I'm having a hard time finding specs on most of these adapters, and on the ones I do see, they are all DL 3. If someone knows of ANY USB to HDMI adapter that's known to work with Arch, please let me know.

Well, I went back to my local store and swapped out my adapter for this one. http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-2048x1152 … sb+to+hdmi
After following the instructions on the Arch Wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DisplayLink) it works great. Very little tearing, although it doesn't seem to handle gradients as well as the native HDMI monitor I am using, which is by no means a deal breaker.

@ProtoTech: did you experience mouse lag?
Is it still working or have you found a better alternative?
