Mouse not fully functional

I'm running arch on an Acer Aspire One.  I just installed X and i3 and they seem to function just fine, but the mouse isn't working.  Arch detects mouse clicks but not mouse movement, so the cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen. I tried reinstalling xf86-input-evdev but it didn't help.

Re: Mouse not fully functional

Are you sure the mouse is functional?

Does the mouse work with other machines?

Does the mouse work on the same machine with (a live version of) a different distribution?

Re: Mouse not fully functional

Is there a mouse on your system, or are you using a touch pad?
If you are not using a mouse, you might try connecting a USB as a sanity check.
If you are using the touch pad, are you using a custom configuration file for it?
Perhaps you could use wgetpaste to post your Xorg log and give us the link.  Like this:

ewaller@turing ~ 1116 %wgetpaste ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log
Your paste can be seen here: http://paste.pound-python.org/show/Y1QwWYwO2Xdubgxw7oxw/
ewaller@turing ~ 1117 %

Then we can follow the link to see it http://paste.pound-python.org/show/Y1Qw … ubgxw7oxw/

Re: Mouse not fully functional

It's the mousepad built into laptop not an external one.

Arch says it doesn't have this command. What package is it under?

D'oh!

Sorry...

Does this get it working:

# pacman -S xf86-input-synaptics

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics

That fixed it.  Thank you.

ewaller@turing ~ 1118 %pacman -Ss wgetpaste
community/wgetpaste 2.26-1 [installed]
A script that automates pasting to a number of pastebin services
ewaller@turing ~ 1119 %

It is a handy tool to have. Even if this is solved smile
