resolution of a screen

Hi,
I am running Arch for about 1 year, doing upgrades from time to time. It is a graphical mode desktop. I have upgraded week or two ago.

Now each time I want to change the resolution of the screen, the screen goes blank with 'unsupported mode' message on it. The screen only works on maximum resolution detected  at boot time.

Video card: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series]
Driver: extra/xf86-video-ati 1:7.5.0-2

Connected to screen via Display Port.

Any known bug with it ?

Thanks,
  Dima.

Re: resolution of a screen

What modes are available? What is the current resolution and what are you trying to set?

Please read How To Ask Questions The Smart Way and provide some relevant information.

Re: resolution of a screen

Did you read the link I pasted? What command are you using and what error are you seeing?

Also, use code tags when pasting to the boards: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … s_and_code

Re: resolution of a screen

Re-edited the message.
List of resolutions is obtained via xrandr.

I normally switch resolution using the desktop manager GUI utilities.

But for the forum I used

xrandr -s 1280x800 ; sleep 5 ; xrandr -s 2560x1600

Then, for 5 seconds, the screen went blank. No error message from xrandr
