When I log in after about 5 seconds the screen goes "black". It doesn't turn off/stop displaying, it just displays only black pixels. The backlight still changes the brightness of the black, but I can't get the actual output back. It's got an Nvidia GPU with an intel cpu video card as well.
Here's a video of what it's doing - Video of Problem
Has anyone heard of this problem before or have ideas on how I can go about fixing it? I can get access to a working terminal on the machine for information and testing solutions.

I have the same laptop but have never run into this issue.
Are you using KDE too?

Can you switch to a console screen? Is that visible?
