Hi guys,
after upgrading my system to current using pacman -Syu my sound is gone. i think the problem is that now i have
/lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel & /lib/modules/2.4.24/kernel
is there a way i can make my sound work?

if you were using alsa you have to reinstall alsa-driver at least to gdet your sound back. run depmod -a after reinstalling the modprobe your sound module in and if it works i suggest your reboot to make sure your settings all come up properly --- reminder your channels may be muted again so if everything loads and you have no sound then that is likely the issue.

hhhmm, thanks for the answer,
i reinstalled alsa-driver, run depmod -a & then try to load the modules & it doesn't work! i always get :
Can't locate module snd-pcm-oss
that happens with all the modules i try to load. & my modules are still in
/lib/modules/2.4.24/kernel/sound
is there a way i can load them from there or copy them somewhere else or i don't know what else.
thanks for the help though!

did you reinstall the other alsa packages (alsa-oss, alsa-lib)? if not try reinstalling those.

ok, that's really weird. i don't get it! everytime i uninstall alsa-driver, alsa-lib, alsa-oss, alsa-utils i have only one folder :
/lib/modules/2.4.21
then i reboot my system & install everything again & then it install in
/lib/modules/2.4.24
why is that? why does pacman install everything in /lib/modules/2.4.24?
thanks for the help guys, Shemeta

Sorry, I haven't rebuilt alsa-driver under 2.4.25 yet. It's on the way now.

HI, since i am using 2.4.21 don't i need alsa built for 2.4.21? or it's better if i upgrade to kernel 2.4.25

Upgrading is probably a good idea. There are exploits in earlier versions. If you stick with 2.4.21 for some reason, you'll have to build your own copy of alsa-driver.
