Hello everyone,
I am having problems displaying the desktop, it shows only a black screen with the mouse pointer.
The computer runs an ATI HD7970 with multhead (currently both screens display the same picture which I intend to resolve later).
The versions of the packages I am running is:
xf86-video-ati 1:7.5.0-2
mesa 10.5.6-1
lightdm 1:1.14.0-3
cinnamon 2.6.6-1
lightdm-gtk-greeter 1:2.0.1-2
xorg-server 1.17.1-5pastebin of Xorg.0.log and Xorg.1.log
xorg log shows the following error line:
systemd-logind: failed to get session: PID 327I am not sure where the error lies, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Can you get the desktop to start without a display manager?
Hi, Head_on_a_Stick, no I cannot get to the desktop either way. The culprit seems to be this line in Xorg.1.log:
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
[ 94.487] (EE) RADEON(0): [drm] failed to set drm interface version.
[ 94.487] (EE) RADEON(0): Kernel modesetting setup failed
[ 94.488] (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
[ 94.488] (EE)
[ 94.488] (EE) no screens found(EE)
[ 94.488] (EE)
[ 94.488] (EE) Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.1.log" for additional information.
[ 94.488] (EE)
[ 94.496] (EE) Server terminated with error (1). Closing log file.It seems X detects the screens but cannot initialize drm. I've tried looking up the error but I am not sure where the problem is. I've also tried download
catalyst-totalfrom yaourt but it seems it needs a previous version of xorg-server (specifically xorg-server<1.17.0), the version I am running is:
xorg-server 1.17.1-5.
Again, I'm not sure how to fix this error, any help is appreciated.

Which desktop environment (or window manager) are you trying to start?
Perhaps your card is too new to be supported by xf86-video-ati
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati#Overview
Rather than use Yaourt (it's rubbish), follow the ArchWiki page for the Catalyst drivers -- either use the unofficial repository or build the package manually.

If you were already using LightDM, the recent upgrade has changed the .conf file significantly, separating out settings. With luck, you still have the new .conf as a pacnew file, so I recommend opening both yours and the pacnew side by side, and propogating your config through the pacnew before saving it as just plain .conf.

Hi Roken, I am not sure where the pacnew file should be, could you help me?
Thanks!

Check in /etc/lightdm - it should be there

Hi again,
I've checking everything and still cannot get into the desktop. I will try again compiling catalyst from source but I am not sure that is going to solve it.
Thank you everyone!
