I was wondering, is there any drawback to installing AUR packages in /opt ? I was reading the AUR wiki, and it hinted at installing AUR builds in ~/builds , but I have already installed some packages in /opt, which I thought seemed reasonable since http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem … y_Standard , defines /opt as the directory for "optional application software packages".
I was thinking that maybe it would be problematic since /opt is afterall a folder owned by root, although all my AUR builds in /opt are in a subfolder folder /opt/AUR owned by me so that I don't need sudo.

No, it does not tell you to install packages to ~/build, it suggests *building* them there.

Oh ok, can I then delete the build packages after installation?

Yes. You may want to backup *.pkg.tar.xz if you want to reuse that package later.
