USB sleep and charge on Sony Vaio laptop
Hi
So I've been wondering about this for some time. My laptop has an advertised (http://www.sony-asia.com/microsite/vaio … 09/09.html) function that the USB 3 port can remain on when the computer is off/sleeping to charge a phone, say. But I can't figure out how to activate this function in Linux. I know on a desktop, this would be controlled by a pin on the motherboard, but obviously that is not how it works on a laptop. It seems on windows that the proprietary helper program does *something* in software/firmware, but I no longer have windows on this machine to test. This machine is BIOS based, and I have looked through the BIOS, but can't find any references to this. And all I have been able to find on the internet regarding power to USB ports in Linux is how to turn them off, which is not what I want. I've had a look through lsusb, but can't find any mention of the function, and I'm a bit stuck for what to try to get this working. Any ideas?

The Sony Vaio USB Charge or Power Share functionality was added to Linux kernel with the release 3.16. Upgrade your kernel then try:
Run as root:
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/usb_charge
