segfault when launching skype 4.3

Hi,

I've installed the latest version available (4.3.0.37-3), following the instructions of the friendly and helpful wiki[1], on a 64bit laptop with the multilib repository enabled and a working PulseAudio.

pacman -Syyu

says everything is up to date.

I'm having problems getting rid of a segmentation fault I experience when I try to launch skype. I've fiddled with PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC, I've everything else I saw on the wiki or the web that seemed applicable. I do not have ~/.Skype.

ldd outputs the following:

I have seen the ldd output from [2], but it comes from an older version of skype. Can anyone share the library dependencies for their [working] skype 4.3 installation?

Given that I seem to be the only one encountering this issue, I reckon I must have made a mistake, but I've ran out of possible leads. I'd be grateful for any pointers in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

Confirmed, apparently it's related to the upgrade of qt. I'm analyzing the core dump.

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

seems to be related to : https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546746

I have the same problem in Gentoo.

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

The solution is to run

sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/lib32-qt4-4.8.6-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

The new version of lib32-qt4 is to blame, so this will downgrade to the previous version available.

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

When I try to start skype:

[whitewizard@arch ~]$ skype
Aborted (core dumped)
[whitewizard@arch ~]$

Downgrading to an older version of Skype does not help at all. Does anybody have any ideas about what could be causing this?

That is not a solution, that is a temporary workaround.

ok, I confirm this temporary workaround work.
We can assume that "lib32-qt4 4.8.7-1" cannot be used, so any new upgrade can be made only when a new version will be available.

This should do it: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ar … ck_Machine

Also for future reference, look into paccache for cleaning the chache.

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

I can confirm the problem just got the Error after updating to latest QT version.

(skype:4110): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "adwaita",

(skype:4110): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "adwaita",
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge"
Aborted (core dumped)

Since atk-bridge failed I thought the problem could be in the at-spi2-atk package. But reinstalling don't work.
The workaround - using the old QT package works. Can some one also check if everything with this atk-bridge import is ok? But that should be in Skype code I guess...

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

There is obviously a problem with the qt version, however I have one question if someone could answer it. Could it be related to the GCC version? If memory serves correctly, we had issues with wine being compiled with a newer GCC version and that was causing the issues, but when compiled with 4.9 (I think), it worked fine. Is this possibly a GCC issue that is causing issues elsewhere?

From the bug report on Gentoo, seems so.

Also, i tested it on Fedora, and it works. Fedora is using gcc 5.1.1 ( probably with the fix already upstream )

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

Manjaro isn't Arch. If you're using Arch, you'd be better off using the Arch Rollback Machine, which runical mentioned.

Re: segfault when launching skype 4.3

THIS FIX WORKED FOR ME!

I downgraded lib32-qt4 with lib32-qt4-4.8.6-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz  from http://seblu.net/a/arm/2015/05/25/multilib/os/x86_64/ and everything with skype works normal again.

This isn't a fix: as Scimmia pointed out it is a workaround. It is also posted further up the thread...
