Wireless Killer n1525 driver ath10k

Hello,

I bought a new laptop last week, and has for wireless card killer n1525. After some research I found out that this card has this chipset
https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Qualcomm_Athe … ss-AC_1525

WI1 chip1: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174

and I need the new ath10k driver which will be part of the new kernel 3.20 (or 4.0).
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use … ers/ath10k

2015-01-27 QCA6174 support added, will be in 3.20.

So, I was thinking that either I can install the latest ath10k from git using
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use … /backports
and
https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/use … k/firmware

or
uncomment testing core and do a full upgrade to kernel 4.0 from the testing repos.
However, I read somewhere that there were some problems with the nvidia proprietary drivers.

Since, both are pretty new for me, ( I have installed arch linux in two laptops and one desktop, however I had no similar problems), which option do you suggest me to follow?

Furthermore, I installed plasma desktop ("kde 5") and I had a problem opening the desktop (startx etc.) (is called x-server right?). I tested with xorg and had no problem, and as I read I have to properly configure the drivers for nvidia and intel and bumblebee (optimus). So, if I eventually upgrade to core testing and kernel 4.0, should I properly configure the gpu drivers, or first upgrade and then install/configure the drivers?

Thank you very much
P.S. I hope this was the right place to post this

Re: Wireless Killer n1525 driver ath10k

Hi,
the n1525 does not work even with latest kernel (4.0.5) and firmware from win8 drivers. Only way at this point of time is to build custom kernel and then use the firmware.
As for the X - this is usually started automatically - like if you use sddm login manager.
As for the nvidia+intel I personally do not recommend optimus due to its poor performance. I have nvidia gtx980m and the difference is beyond bearable. Try running separate X with nvidia (more info in my thread) - scripts are here
I didnt create a AUR package for it yet but if there would be someone wanting it i will.

Re: Wireless Killer n1525 driver ath10k

Dev from ubuntu just issued a .deb that seems to temporaly solve the support for this card. Anyone with the knowledge able to reate an AUR package to try it out on Ach Linux.

Its posted on the comment #209 in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1383184

It also says at the end thats is going to post an updated version of it as well.

Thanks in advance.
