Problem installing Gnome

So, this is pretty much my first time seriously installing arch. I'm using HP 850 G1 Elitebook, with integrated Intel HD4000  and discrete Radeon 8750M GPU. The shell runs fine and I wanted to install Gnome 3 DE. I installed gnome and gnome-extra packages, mesa-libgl, xf86-video-ati and xf86-video-intel and on reboot, the login screen displays fine. However, when I login, the screen goes blank, stays that way a couple of minutes and finally displays "Oh No, something had gone wrong" page, system can't recover, etc.

Any help and pointers are appreciated.

EDIT: Journalctl  gives "warning application 'gnome-shell.desktop' failed to register before timeout" followed by unrecoverable failure.

Re: Problem installing Gnome

When talking of the login screen, do you mean gdm or something similar or the default cli-login-prompt?
I suppose the former.

So, in that case, have you tried to run gnome via startx?
