I also found a bug in /sbin/splash owned by gensplashutils. wc is used without the full path: /lib/splash/bin/wc. As it's a non-standard path, it cause an error on system with /usr on a separate partition.

OK - I have made fixes. They are not the same as Gandalf's as I couldn't access his patch yesterday. As far as I can tell the silent bar should appear earlier now though. The mistake was actually kind of obvious - I was just defeated by the way udev now starts differently.

I will upload them at the weekend. Thanks for the support and fixes, guys

Hmm silent doesn't seem to work for me either. I have tried Gandalf's path, but that didn't seem to work.
When I try to set it on silent, it result in a blank/black screen after the kernel is loaded. Is this related to the initscript, cause I am not completely sure.
