My laptop connects to the wireless network if it's close to the modem. But if I go farther, my phone still can connect to the network but my laptop can't. Can I solve this? Sorry for bad English.

It may be helpful if you provided more specific information - what laptop/wireless card do you have? Does this behaviour occur in other operating systems? You may just have a crappy wireless card/antennae.

That sounds very likely to be a hardware issue. One friend of mine told a couple of days ago in IRC how he had tested some USB Wi-Fi-modules and surprisingly one had connected to a wireless station that was within the distance of about three meters.
That module had no external antenna attached so the maximum distance it worked was about five meters. I guess that the antenna inside your computer has loosen from the plug in the wireless card.
The question, can you solve that, depends a lot of if there is still warranty available, the location of wireless card and your technical skills. To begin with the warranty, it may be terminated if you open the back cover of your laptop. Secondly, some models of the HP Pavilion -series are extremely difficult to disassemble and built so that you have to remove the whole motherboard before getting in contact with certain components. The rest is up to how well can you handle a screwdriver.

Warranty finished 7 months ago. And I'm not very good at doing these kind of stuff. Can I use my sonic screwdriver to fix it? ![]()

Have you tried changing the Wifi channel in your router? 1, 6 and 11 are recommended. Using other channels could lead to interference and therefore connection difficulties and dropouts.

Confront the wireless power ratio as seen from laptop and smartphone. Have them at the same distance from the AP.
