[Solved] Failed to get cgroup: no such file or directory

After updating the kernel today I get the following notification:

Failed to get cgroup: no such file or directory

After testing out some downgrades (kernel, polkit) that may have been related I recalled that, together with the kernel image creation, the version of systemd being shown during startup is too 'updated' due to this process.
Therefore, as there had been no previous kernel updates, the 'notification' was always there since the latest systemd update but was simply not 'visible'.

The thing I am wondering about is, is this one of those notifications one can safely ignore or is it an actual problem that needs a fix?

Edit - fixed error notification
Edit2 - fixed [solved] thread

Re: [Solved] Failed to get cgroup: no such file or directory

I'm getting the same message.  I believe it's due to the systemd upgrade combined with building a new initramfs that uses the 221 [udev] hook.  My system seems to be acting fine though.

@skunktrader

Thanks for the link.

According to foutrelis' statement it is harmless thus 'closing' the thread.

Actually, from the moment I start receiving this message, my machine have a problem switching to swap when my ram is full (swap is mounted via fstab).. this causes almost complete freeze, forcing me to turn computer off manually. Anyone experienced something similar?

Probably not related.  The original problem message seems to be fixed.  I pulled down the latest updates (which included systemd 221-2) then ran

# mkinitcpio -p linux

and I no longer get the message.

Re: [Solved] Failed to get cgroup: no such file or directory

I'm also seeing the "Failed to get cgroup" message on startup.  At the same time, my system has ceased to re-instate running programs/open windows after boot - could these two be related?

Graphical programs?  That's going to be an issue with your DE and the "save session" function.  Most likely not related but read my last post if you want to get rid of the message.
