Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

I've been messing with some of the stuff I've found in other threads on various other boards and was curious if anyone has any other suggestions for boosting FPS/Performance in Diablo 3 running via PlayOnLinux. I've so far modified D3Prefs.txt and set HardwareClass "1" (originally was "4"), as well as enabled CSMT. Seems the frames like to jump all over between 20 and 50, and dropping into the teens when running rifts with other people. I'd like to if at all possible, get it to a steady frame rate.

AMD FX-8150
Nvidia GTX 760
16GB Memory.

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

When you say CSMT enabled you do mean you installed a wine-csmt patched version ?

disable strict draw rendering see if that helps

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

I'm using Wine version 1.7.45-staging which allows me to have the CSMT option as I understand it.

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

in D3Prefs.txt

DisableTrilinearFiltering "1"

might also help for slow downs during big fights

Yes I've done that as well. Forgot to mention it. Still doing some testing but your first suggestion might be helping some.

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

Set NVidia PowerMizer to maximum Performance using the nvidia-settings tool before you start the game to test if that could help as well

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

I think all(?) Blizzard games run better in OpenGl mode. Have you tried to start the game with -opengl? Also you might want want to try 32bit and 64bit versions of the game. I cant remember exactly, but either 32 or 64bit WoW didnt work for me properly, so try both.

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

Using PlayOnLinux how would I start it with OpenGL mode? I tried adding -opengl to the arguments in PlayOnLinux and my FPS still hits in the teens during rift fights (which is 90% of time spent in Diablo 3)

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

Are you starting the game from Battle.net? Options-> Game Settings->Additional commandline arguments-> -opengl
Im not sure if this helps, but i think its worth a try.

Ok I've added that and will test now. Does adding -opengl to Configure -> General -> Arguments inside of PlayOnLinux have any affect or should I remove -opengl from there and only use it in the battle.net part you suggested?

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

I've got nothing to prove this beyond a random post on winehq.org and my own lack of any improvement in performance when using an -opengl argument (which was a huge improvement for me in WoW), but I don't think the Windows D3 client has as OpenGL option.  Does anyone know more about this (e.g. you have seen improvement, or you work for Blizzard big_smile )?

In any case, I'm posting because I also have bad FPS in D3.  My CPU is pretty old (Core2 Quad Q9550), and my GPU is a GTX 660, so it could just be that I can't handle running stuff through Wine anymore.  However, the game runs fine on Windows, and WoW's old OpenGL renderer gave me about a billion FPS, so who knows.

Re: Diablo 3 - Low FPS issue

you could open a terminal and launch it like this

setarch i386 -3 -L -B -R /usr/bin/playonlinux --run "<Diablo 3 Launchers Name>" -opengl

The Launchers name is what you see if you open up PlayOnLinux
Quotes should be typed but not the <>

Have you tried tweaking kernel or I/O Scheduler?
